The lifeboat monument is situated on St. Anne's Promenade, near the Bandstand. The monument commemorates the disaster of 9th December 1886 when the lives of all the thirteen crewmen of the St Annes lifeboat the "Laura Janet" were lost in attempting to rescue the crew of the barque "Mexico". The Southport lifeboat was also lost in the same attempt and all but two of the sixteen man crew died

This image shows the monument not long after its installation. The monument was unveiled on 23rd May 1888 by John Talbot Clifton.

In front of the memorial is a donations box for the RNLI.

The building behind the memorial on the right hand side is Oxford House School for Boys.
