A document entitled "For Kitchener From Kirkham:
Men from Kirkham, Wesham and the rural Fylde who served during the Great War 1914 - 1918" lists men from the Kirkham area who enlisted and fought after Kitchener's recruitment campaign. It tell's us "In early September, 1914, a recruiting meeting was held on the Market Square, Kirkham, and after several patriotic speeches from various local dignitaries a large number of local men had volunteered to enlist. The following morning they all gathered at the Market Square, where a photograph was taken before leaving on foot for Preston".
