General notes
Malt Kiln Workers Cottages, Longton. The workers were employed, in the early 1800s, by Thomas Wilkins at the malt kiln he built on the north side of Marsh Lane. The malt was primarily for beer making for his inn, the Golden Ball, across from the cottages. The family went on to become W. and R. Wilkins in a commercial brewery, to the west of the kiln, on the south side of Marsh Lane.
The properties, have been modernised and still exist on the same site - opposite the car park of the Golen Ball.
