Nelson Football Club can be traced to 1881, when after a match between Burnley and Blackburn, locals were inspired to form the team.
Nelson was founder members of the Third Division North.
1922-23, was the club's most successful ever, as they finished Champions of the Third Division North, earning promotion to National Division Two.
During a summer trip to Spain, Nelson became the first English team to beat Real Madrid (4-2) on Spanish Soil.
However they were relegated the following season.
Poor attendances and results followed and the club folded on the 7th August 1936.
