General notes
"A particulraly fine exampLe of a cross-head formed mainly from combining four broken circles is seen on the third Hornby stone. The stone has not su:rrived unbroken....... This example at Hornby is of particular interest in that the four circles forming the cross head are only just broken, the gaps in them belng very small indeed. The four circles are themselves totally enclosed by a large circle from which the shaft springs."
