Keeping East Lancashire in the Picture

During this two year project, a wonderful team of volunteers has digitised over 50000 historic images from the collections at Accrington, Burnley, Nelson, and Colne libraries.

The project - funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Friends of Lancashire Archives - also created new images of East Lancashire, in partnership with schools and community groups, and collected additional historic images.

Police - details of the majority of police officers who served in Lancashire from 1840 onwards. Copies of the associated documents can be provided by Lancashire Archives & Local History if the officer joined a fore more than 85 years ago. More details

Newspapers - articles in newspapers from the early 19th century onwards which are held on microfilm and cuttings files in libraries across Lancashire. More details

Preston Guild Roll - details of over 45,000 people listed in the 27 surviving Preston Guild Rolls from 1397 to 1992. A copy of any original entry can be provided by Lancashire Archives & Local History. More details

Historical Documents - names and other information about the 15,000 patients admitted to Whittingham Asylum 1873-1914. The information comes from Reception Orders, paperwork completed when someone was admitted to hospital. A copy of the original Reception Order can be provided by Lancashire Archives & Local History. FLOAT - 'Fleetwood Online Archive of Trawlers' - digital copies of photographs from the collections of Wilfred Dodds and Peter Horsley showing trawlers from Fleetwood, Grimsby, Hull and many other European ports. More details
