Wilfred Dodds Collection
Before the start of the FLOAT project, the Wilfred Dodds collection consisted of 6,500 trawler images with identifying text in 65 volumes. The collection was rapidly deteriorating and was not in a good condition for long-term preservation. As part of the project, the collection was professionally conserved and has been digitized here for people to view easily.

The Wilfred Dodds collection consists of trawler images from Fleetwood, the UK and abroad and contains both colour and black and white images. The photographs span a significant period of time, from the late 19th century to the present day.

The collection has been held in Fleetwood Library for many years, so little is known of the original owner of the collection. We do know that Wilfred Dodds left Fleetwoods Central School in 1925 and became an apprentice with the engineering firm of James Robertson and Sons. Robertsons did many things, including making trawler winches, undertaking ship and engine repairs and acting as engineers for smaller trawler companies. The picture here was taken in 1928 and shows workers at the company's No. 2 Dock shop. Wilfred Dodds can be seen as a young man seated on the front bench second from the right.

Later, Wilfred joined the Merchant Navy and following his service he settled in Bridgwater, Somerset.
