Frank and Eric Smith's Morecambe Rides
Eric Smith grew up around the Morecambe fairground of the 1940s and 50s. His father, Frank, an engineer built and ran fairground rides at the Winter Gardens (Eric's parent can be seen doing this in Lawrence Olivier's 1960 feature film "The Entertainer"). In the late 40s concieved of and built an unusual ride "The Mechanical Elephant" which later went into manufacture at Luneside Engineering in Halton. Eric became a mechanic and went on to work with innovative engineering running the NSU garage in Morecambe.
